RI_anim_04-1024x575I am looking for two new volunteers for RightsInfo – all details here and below.

We are currently in the process of expanding RightsInfo (more on that soon) and are looking for two new Project Volunteers to help produce news content.

RightsInfo not even a year old, but it has already been a huge success. We are leading the market for innovative, engaging online human rights resources for non-lawyers. We won the Plain-English Campaign “Communicator” award, are shortlisted for the 2016 UK Blog Awards (‘Innovator’ category), we have been widely featured in the national media and our resources have been shared hundreds of thousands of times.

What you would need to do

We need two people to join our wonderful, talented volunteer team. They will be assisting our editors Anna and Natasha in writing regular short human rights news updates, including plain-English summaries of judgments and pieces on current affairs involving human rights.

What kind of person we are looking for

  • Good, clear writers with an interest in human rights and social media
  • People who can summarise legal cases for a lay audience, so ideally you would have some legal experience. Current law students would fall into that category.
  • People who can devote a bit of time each day or every other day to the project
  • We will take into account exam commitments if you are a student so please do apply if you know you will be a bit stretched in the next few months.
  • No prior experience of journalism is needed.

How to apply

Please email charlotte@rightsinfo.org with the following:

  • Subject line: “Volunteer Application – RightsInfo”
  • Body text of email:
50 words (max) about you including why you would suit the role and any relevant experience.
  • A 150-word summary of this case aimed at a lay audience (i.e. non-experts, no jargon, make it interesting)
  • Please do not send C.V.s.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on Monday 11 April 2016
